External Wholesaler/Regional Director

The External Wholesaler/Regional Director plays a key role within the Penn Capital sales team. In partnership with the Internal Wholesaler (the Team) for the assigned territory (mid-west region, Chicagoland location preferable, but not necessary) and relationship coverage, the External Wholesaler/RD – via outbound phone, email, direct mail and virtual communications - develops relationships and identifies and acquires new business within a specified territory to meet defined goals and metrics. The Team will service multiple channels, including RIAs, Broker Dealers, Wirehouses, Consultants, and State & Corporate pension plans.

The External Wholesaler/RD works to develop meaningful relationships with financial advisors at Registered Investment Advisors, national broker dealers and institutional consultants in the assigned territory and relationship coverage.

The External Wholesaler must possess understanding and passion for the sales process and capital markets. He or she must also have excellent organizational and follow up skills, and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Moreover, the External Wholesaler must demonstrate professional presence, poise, strong presentation skills, and a high level of energy and motivation.

  Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Marketing, Business, or a related field
  • FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in the financial services industry, preferably in wholesaling.
  • Working with and understanding the use of CRM and sales force automation systems
  • Demonstrated internal and external relationship management skills.
  • Work collaboratively. Ability to work as a team player who treats colleagues with the highest level of respect and professionalism.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, environment, with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly with demonstrated ability to problem-solve in a critical and creative manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand investment products and strategies with a focus on credit-related strategies such as high yield bonds, loans, and levered equities, as well as strong knowledge of products such as separately managed accounts, registered mutual funds, model and wrap products, and limited partnership pooled investment vehicles
  • Understand portfolio return attribution and performance drivers
  • Knowledge of, and prior experience with, complex systems including Bloomberg, Advent APX, eVestment Omni, FACTSET (preferred)
  • Excellent Microsoft Office (Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint) skills
  • At least 5 years of experience in sales, sales support or marketing, preferably within the Wealth Management, Asset Management or Institutional Asset business.
  • Experience within the RIA, national wire house or institutional channels.
  • Knowledge of mutual funds and separate accounts within the context of the overall asset management industry.
  • This position requires up to 60% travel.

INTernal Wholesaler

The Internal Wholesaler plays a key role within the Penn Capital sales team. In partnership with the Director of  Business Development (external) for the assigned territory and relationship coverage, the internal – via outbound phone, email, direct mail and virtual communications - develops and maintains existing relationships and identifies and acquires new business within a specified territory to meet defined goals and metrics.  

The Internal Wholesaler works to develop and maintain meaningful client relationships with financial advisors at Registered Investment Advisors, national broker dealers and institutional consultants in the assigned territory and relationship coverage.

The Internal Wholesaler must possess understanding and passion for the sales process and capital markets. He or she must also have excellent organizational and follow up skills, and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Moreover, the Manager must demonstrate professional presence, poise, strong presentation skills, and a high level of energy and motivation.

    INVESTment Service Associate

    Penn Capital is seeking a professional to work in its Investment Services group. The Investment Services Associate position interacts across the organization and will support the operations and client services activities of the firm. The individual will be responsible for supporting the client service and operations functions of the firm and will work closely with internal and external sales teams, portfolio management and trading teams, and other members of the Investment Services team.

    Responsibilities of the Position: 

    • Client reporting and facilitating ad hoc client/advisor requests
    • Establishing relationships with external sponsors and financial advisors to facilitate wrap platform account openings, terminations, withdrawals, tax harvesting requests, etc.
    • Managing asset flow reporting process
    • Reconciling accounts and proposing resolutions
    • Troubleshooting issues with internal and external parties to facilitate resolutions
    • Documenting procedures and seeking process improvement
    • Additional operational and client service responsibilities based on experience

    Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

    • 2-5 years’ experience in investment management industry – operations or client service a plus
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to solve problems in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a team environment
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Highly developed organizational skills - ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
    • Knowledge of financial markets and economic concepts
