Penn Capital Management Co Inc. is seeking a Research Analyst covering the Materials (metals & mining, chemicals, and paper & packaging) and Industrials (transportation) sectors performing fundamental equity and credit analysis. Responsible for conducting investment and financial analysis including economic, quantitative, strategic, equity, credit, and market specific analyses on micro cap, small cap, and mid cap US equities and on US high yield/bank loan issuers. Construct detailed financial models (including three statement models) and analyze business performance and prospects, relative value, credit characteristics of individual issues, deal structure, underlying collateral, and perform risk analysis, competitive landscape analysis, and probability and statistical analysis. Develop cash flow, income and balance sheet statement operating models to forecast future earnings and perform valuation analysis. Monitor macro and company news on existing investments to consistently re-evaluate investments. Liaise with companies and conduct extensive due diligence of publically available information on specific companies and industries by conducting meetings and interviews with CEOs, CFOs, investor relations, sell-side analysts and private industry executives. Conduct primary and secondary research, generate and present investment ideas, attend conferences, and meet with current and prospective clients. Special Requirements: Master’s degree in Business Administration or Related Discipline. Progress towards Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) designation demonstrated by passage of CFA exam at Level 2 or higher. Experience must include at least two years of the following: Analyzing and valuing companies in the Materials (metals & mining, chemicals, and paper & packaging) and Industrials (transportation) sectors. Performing equity and fixed income analysis. Proficiency in Bloomberg, Factset, and Excel and experience with statistical package (R, SAS, SPSS, or E-views, etc).
